Job Lane Farm Museum

our History

Nestled in Bedford lies the Job Lane House, a testament to American resilience and history that dates back over three centuries. From its origins in 1664, when housewright Job Lane transformed the land into a home, to its days as a bustling farm under the Dutton family, the house embodies the spirit of its era. Witness the artistic murals of Rufus Porter, explore a herb garden inspired by “the Herb Lady” Lillian Dutton, and discover a community’s dedication to preserving this landmark through the addition of a 1720s style barn raised by over 80 volunteers. Each corner of the Job Lane House tells a unique story of innovation, community, and heritage, inviting visitors to step back in time.

Read on to uncover the rich tapestry of lives that have shaped this historical gem, and explore the enduring legacy of a house that witnessed the birth of a nation.
